activate your YouTube monetization and then later in the video we're also going to cover why some creators make more money than others not everyone is getting to the bag there are highly paid creators and they're creators who still need a day job we're going to talk about why we're going to talk about what you need to do if you you want to get monetized on YouTube if you're thinking of starting a Channel or you already have a channel but you're not making money or you're making money but it's not a lot of money we're going to talk about what you need to do much later in the video so if you that you want me to make more of so without further ado let's get into it number one how YouTube pays now if you haven't noticed yet if you've never been annoyed by an ad that just pops up while you're watching a video just like this one yeah what just happened is how YouTube makes money YouTube's business model is advertising so they Place ads on videos and advertisers have to bid to get ad spots on videos and the person who has the highest CPM gets to place an ad on my video now what does CPM mean it means cost per mil which means cost per thousand views so every time a thousand people watch the ad The Advertiser has to pay a certain amount of money so for example if your CPM is five dollars every single time 1 000 people watch that ad the advertiser has to pay five dollars now how does that translate to money in my bank account or money in any other career Creator's bank account that's where we have something called RPM which means Revenue per mil so basically YouTube takes a cut of what the advertiser pays and the Creator takes the rest now if you noticed I didn't say anything about subscribers because YouTube actually doesn't pay you for the subscribers you have to be honest subscriber count is a vanity metric and I know this might be mind-blowing if you know nothing about the YouTube business model because a lot of YouTubers brag about having hundred thousand subscribers 1 million subscribers and they give us these plaques to make us feel good but the truth is if we're talking about money in our bank accounts it is not about subscribers girl it's about views and it's about views on the ads don't let anybody lie to you so if you are a tiny little Channel if you just started a YouTube channel and you're discouraged because you don't have a lot of subscribers and you're thinking oh my gosh I need thousands and thousands of subscribers before I can start making money that's not true you just need videos that are valuable enough for people to watch and you can start making money but that leads us to point number two how to become eligible because not every channel that gets views gets paid number two is how to become eligible for YouTube monetization YouTube has a program called the YouTube Partner program and so every Creator who get gets paid by YouTube is considered a partner I'm a partner Patricia bright is a partner area on demand is a partner a lot of your favorite creators are YouTube partners and to become a YouTube Partner you need to have 1 000 subscribers and 4 000 watch hours in a single year now that's the part that trips people up so much and as difficult as that sounds it is absolutely doable and I'll talk more about what you need to do if you haven't hit that Mark or if you want to but you don't know how to hit that Mark we'll talk about that later in the video but traditionally those are the two requirements to become eligible for the YouTube Partner program however because of the rise of the tick tocks because Tick Tock is going to the moon and YouTube is like wait we have to give Tick Tock a run for their money YouTube decided to give you a third way to join the YouTube Partner program and that is to get 10 million views on short now I know that sounds like a wild number like 10 million before I can start making money but the truth is the YouTube shorts algorithm is more like The Tick Tock algorithm it's different from this one that we're functioning with right now so people get fuse faster and they get subscribers faster with YouTube shorts so that's another path that you could take that's not the path I took because when I started making content on YouTube shorts weren't really a thing but if you're more of a short kind of girl then that might be the path for you a habit at the back of your mind that there's more money to be made on long videos than short videos number three how to activate monetization on YouTube fun fact YouTube is owned by Google I think everyone knows that but maybe you didn't let me know in the comment section if you didn't know that YouTube and Google were the same thing so to get paid by YouTube you have to sign up for something called Google AdSense and if I had to do this all over again I would set up my Google AdSense account early number four we talked about YouTube's business model and CPM and RPM and all that good stuff now girl if you think oh this seems like something that might be worth my time it might be a good side hustle for me I might want to start a YouTube channel as well but there's just no space in my house
