Why Kerry Washington Refuses To Be Silenced By Critics: ‘You Can Take It Or Leave It’
it's interesting i often feel like you know because of what i do for a living people always question whether i should be as outspoken as i am about women in my business about women's issues about women's empowerment about our democracy in general um and and people said to me like you know we know that you're interested in fashion but should you really be taking on these larger issues about women's financial empowerment and and women's financial independence and iowa i've always said that because i am an artist doesn't mean that i don't get to have my voice you know that every single one of us in this room we have a responsibility to stand strong to tell our story to encourage others to participate to shine a light and give another woman a hand up we really do have that responsibility and because i'm an artist doesn't mean i'm going to forego that responsibility so that i don't lose ratings or people don't buy my magazine like what i am who i am is who i am and you can take it or leave it it's a great thing about living in the country we live in you can take it or leave it but i firmly believe that for us that part of my blessing to have been able to accomplish some of the things i've been able to accomplish in my job is to be able to pay that forward and make sure that other women have some of that same information
